Outpost

Indigenous Art

The Ephemerals: Outpost exhibits the accumulated work of The Ephemerals Collective, from films, performance documentation, interventions, collaborations, related material culture and generated output such as clothes, zines, and installations. In addition, The Ephemerals opened a commercial gallery within Urban Shaman's main gallery space.

We endeavour to raise the profile of the sale and collection of art work by professional contemporary Indigenous artists in Winnipeg, a city with a checkered past of commercial galleries and art sales. The historic impact of Daphne Odjig's New Warehouse Gallery on the contemporary Indigenous art scene, both locally and nationally, is undeniable and we aim to honour that legacy by promoting artists at a grassroots community level while developing relationships with potential collectors and art patrons. The exhibition as a whole will reflect the backgrounds of the collective members as artists and curators as well as sharing the spotlight with other Winnipeg-based contemporary Indigenous artists.
